In 1930 the development of “the Protector” sunglasses became a popular addition to the required equipment of many airplane pilots. They were revolutionary sunglasses and the model featured sun protection, comfort, and style and this was at the turn of the last century. The success of this model led to the creation of the Persol trademark.
When the 1950’s came around, the Model 649’s were introduced to the public and they quickly were adopted by a multitude of tram drivers who relied on them to protect their eyes from the dusty air which was always part of their working environment. The demand for these sunglasses increased the brands popularity and other top companies began copying Persol's sunglasses designs. In the early 1990’s Persol created its first pair of sunglasses for women when it made a model for the Italian actress Ornella Muti. This was the 830 Model sunglasses. Persol sunglasses created designs that had such extensive detailing and advanced technology that their features were impossible to duplicate by other manufacturers and the Persol brand lept ahead of its competition. Many actors and actresses adopted Persol sunglasses, and the public soon followed and so the brand prospered.
